I love baking! As you see- and if you follow me on Facebook-you can tell that I have been busy making and baking breads... different kinds and shapes... What can I say, I love bread!
I didn't have time to do all the posting...here is the recipe for buns I've made for company I had last weekend.
Enjoy!
Place warm milk into a small bowl; stir in yeast and sugar to dissolve. Let stand in a warm place until foamy.
Place bran in another bowl; pour hot water over it, stir and set aside to cool.
In a large bowl stir together 4 cups of all purpose flour, the whole wheat flour and salt. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, beat together yeast, egg, oil and water. With the mixer on low, add the soaked bran and 1-1/2 cups of flour; beat until well mixed (about 2 minutes).
Add more of the flour as much as you can to form a dough. Remove to a floured board and knead in the remaining of the flour to form a bread like consistency dough. Knead 3-4 minutes, then place dough into a bowl, cover and let rise in a warm place until it doubles, (about 45-60 minutes).
Punch dough down and divide into 2, then divide each half into 12 pieces. Roll each piece out into a 10-inch rope.
To form the rolls, make a knot in the center and tuck the ends under to form a roll.
Place 2 inch apart on two lightly greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled.
Brush top of buns with egg wash. Sprinkle half of the buns with sesame seeds and the other half with poppy seeds.
Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove to a wire rack to cool.
Makes: 24 rolls
