Oven Baked Naan Bread
Why buy Naan bread when you can make it at home ?! If you like to bake, or thinking of trying... this is an easy recipe to try. Nothing like freshly made breads!
2 tsp. yeast
1/4 cup warm milk
3/4 cup water
4 tbsp. vegetable oil + more for baking
1 tsp. salt
2 1/4 to 2 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup mashed potatoes, for filling
2-3 garlic cloves, optional*
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk and let stand to rise, about 10 minutes, until frothy. Stir water, 4 tablespoon oil, salt and enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, or until smooth. Cover and set aside to rise until has doubled, for about 45 minutes.
Punch dough down onto a floured surface and divide into 10 parts. Form balls and keep them covered. Roll out each ball into a 6x8 inch surface. Place about 3-4 tablespoons of filling on one half, and fold the other half on top of filling; pinch edges to seal. Place Naan bread about 1 inch apart on an two oiled baking sheet. Turn over to grease top also. Cover and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 F. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until they start to brown. Remove them to a covered bowl or pot. Let cool slightly before serving.
* Making dough with Garlic; Knead the minced garlic into the dough when you punch dough down.
