When ever I would make this little “cookies” they always disappeared fast. Now, I can hardly stop my little grandson from eating them all... I love them too, specially with a cup of tea.
For this recipe you don’t need the oven; they are cooked, steamed.
Ingredients:
3 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup milk
3/4 cup margarine, melted
2 cups flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
Beat eggs and sugar together until light and creamy. Add vanilla and milk.
Mix in melted margarine.
Mix flour and baking powder together and add it to the egg mixture. ( it will be a thick batter).
Spoon into greased small muffin pans and steam* covered on medium high heat for about 20-25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Remove from pan onto a serving plate. Proceed with the remaining batter.
Makes: 3 dozens
* To steam puto, place a small muffin pan in the roaster. Pour enough water to reach about 1/2 inch bellow the muffin pan rim. Remove muffin pan. Place roasting pan on the top of the stove, on medium high heat. Fill the muffin pan with the batter. When water is boiling, place filled muffin pan into the water and set timer.
